Special Notes on Lithgow Compatibility

  • LA101: Our kits include 8mm length screws. Occasionally, these rifles use a 6mm length screw. These screws can be shortened by the end user.
  • LA102: These kits include 8mm length screws. Some Lithgow LA102 rifles require 3x 8mm length and 1x 6mm length. These screws can be shortened if required.

Measuring for the Correct Screw Length

To ensure you select the correct screw length for your rifle, follow these simple steps:

  1. Measure Existing Screws:
    • Remove and measure your existing screws to determine the correct size.
  2. Measure Depth with Verniers:
    • Place your scope rail on top of the receiver.
    • Align the scope rail holes with the receiver holes.
    • Insert verniers into the holes to measure the depth accurately.

Why is it crucial to have correct fitting Scope Rail Screws?

Choosing the right length is crucial to avoid accuracy problems and ensure safe function of your rifle.

When your screws are too long, it can be a huge safety issue. They can interfere with the action, stop your bolt closing or enter into the rifle chamber or barrel. Whenever installing screws, perform a function test including chambering a dummy round to ensure nothing sticks, scratches or gets caught.

If screws are too short, they may not properly secure the rail. This can result in movement of the rail, scope rings and scope when in use. Every shot will cause the scope to settle in a completely new position, so you can forget about your DOPE because the Zero effectively gets reset to a new position with every shot.

Obviously a loose rail or undersize screw has a negative effect on your consistency of aim and accuracy! You may see your optics or rail move when the small are too small or too loose, but usually the movements are so small you won’t see it. What you will see is the point of impact and point of aim (“accuracy”) keep changing and being frustratingly inconsistent!
